Moody & Minimal Theme Boudoir

This week on the blog we are featuring a recent session with someone so special to me, Shannon! For her boudoir photoshoot we used almost all aspects of the studio, both a moody, dramatic vibe, as well as a minimal, cozy look.

When we first started planning, the original idea was more of the cozy, light, minimal theme. As we started getting closer & looking at inspiration, Shannon mentioned she loved the idea of wearing a long dress seen in this session here. So we incorporated this look, and a more dramatic vibe to the moodboard and it made for a really well-rounded set of images for her! Having multiple looks can really show so many aspects of style and mood that will make for a beautiful story in your printed album.

I’m so thankful that Shannon trusted me to do her very first boudoir photoshoot; as a creative and photographer herself she hardly ever gets a chance to be in front of the camera. Every woman deserves to feel incredible in her own skin, and I love that boudoir gives you a chance to do that and so much more.

We started off the photoshoot strong with the Luxe Robe on the floral wall a.k.a. the perfect match. I’m also not sorry one tiny bit about how many times you will see an over the shoulder look because it’s probably my favorite way to pose people. I just think it’s so beautiful and understated and sensual and I will never let it go. Thank you, rant over 😂

The cozy sweater is such a classic look for boudoir, I love using it in different ways to reveal different parts of you that we can draw specific attention to! We went from a glam mood, to the cozy, light & airy look, and now we’re going dark & moody. We’re bringing in dramatic lighting, a sexy black dress, and the feather fan! Oh la la!

As always, I loved seeing Shannon get comfortable and flow with the photoshoot as we went on. Watching each person go through some form of a personal transformation, even just feeling comfortable enough to pose yourself by the end of your session, is a huge win for me. Boudoir — no matter the theme you go with or the outfits you wear — is about seeing yourself in a whole new way. It’s about feeling empowered by what you can do, and what you’re willing to do for yourself, purely FOR YOU. If you haven’t experienced this feeling yet, I’d love to show you the way.
