How to Find the Perfect Boudoir Photographer for You

Happy June, friends! It’s the beginning of summer, it’s my birthday month, and it’s a great time to book a boudoir photoshoot for yourself! Spoiler alert: it’s always a great time 😉

But finding a boudoir photographer that fits can be difficult. For a photoshoot as intimate, emotional, and vulnerable as boudoir, you really want to make the right choice! So I’m giving you some pointers, so that you can make a confident decision when booking your session.

I’m also sharing some new photos too, from my recent session with the beautiful Maegan! She booked this session for herself, to celebrate her graduation from college, and to step out of her comfort zone and really treat herself. We had so much fun, she gave me a few specific things she wanted to do, but overall said “you’re in charge, I’ll do whatever you want to do!” Which just lets my creative brain go wild! Let’s dive in.

Read the website

As you’re looking at boudoir photography sites and seeing who is in your area, take the time to really “research” the ones you are interested in. Read through their website to get the overall vibe, see their work, and get to know them a bit through the about me page. What is your initial reaction? If something is feeling off, trust your gut. There are a lot of photographers out here, which means you can be picky to find the perfect fit! If your initial thoughts are “I would love to hang out with this person and know them more, it feels like we could be friends in real life!” that’s a good sign you may want to reach out!

Looking over the website allows you to see a ton of their work. Does their style resonate with you? Do they represent many different kinds of people? Can you potentially see yourself in the photos? Would you be over the moon if those photos were of you? You should be totally in love with your chosen photographer’s work, so that everyone involved knows what to expect. Don’t go looking for a certain style from a photographer if you don’t see it represented anywhere on their website. It doesn’t hurt to ask, but make sure any specific requests are known before you book!

Check Out Their Social Media

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out your photographer’s social media, like instagram or tiktok. These platforms are where you can typically see more of the personality of the artist, and get an even better idea of what they’d be like to work with. Do you like them? Do they feel trustworthy? Do they make you feel excited to do a boudoir photoshoot, or more nervous? How do they talk about people/their clients in their stories and captions? It’s incredibly important that your photographer makes you feel comfortable, supported, safe, and excited, so take your time when making your decision.

Read Reviews

This may seem like an obvious ones, but if you’re finding your photographer online, they are likely on Google (possibly yelp or something similar if not google.) See what others have said about working with them, and again, trust your gut. When you talk to your photographer, ask as many questions as you need to in order to feel totally confident going into it. You’ll likely be spending a lot of money on your boudoir photos, so if anything about the artist is giving you the ick, it’s okay to keep looking.
