4 Easy Ways to Prepare for your Boudoir Session

So you’ve booked your session, you got the welcome email and you’re excited to feel pampered and sexy! But how can you make sure you’re feeling your absolute best leading up to it? I gotchu, boo. I’m sharing with you 4 simple, practical tips to get you prepped and ready to slay. Let’s go!

Prep Tip #1: Hydrate!

Have you seen that meme of the little frog that says “hydrate or diedrate”? 😂 Drinking water and keeping your body hydrated will give you energy, help your skin (hello, chapped lips), and overall keep you from feeling like you totally wanna pass out. To make sure you are ready for your shoot, make sure to be drinking lots of water at least the week leading up to your shoot, if not earlier.

Prep Tip #2: Get Beauty Sleep

Literally. Getting good sleep and feeling rested (even if you want to stay up the night before with jitters and excitement!) will be so key in giving you energy for your shoot. Boudoir sessions are so fun, but honestly, I’m also gonna be making you wooooork, in the best way! I love keeping a high energy, plus you’ll be posing and holding and arching and pointing and you’ll need the sleep, trust me! Get your 8 hours, and be up and moving around at least a couple hours before your shoot so that you are fully awake. You’ll get to come relax for an hour once you get to the studio anyway while we do your hair and makeup.

Prep Tip #3: Skincare is Self Care

Be kind to your skin and take care of it leading up to your shoot. Remember to keep it hydrated (see tip #1 again, haha), wash your face, and don’t forget to moisturize and use sunscreen! Makeup can help, but things like acne and temporary blemishes are always removed in your final images. However, having your face as clean as it can be will definitely help with day-of confidence. That’s what this is all about, after all!

Prep Tip #4: Stretch!

Like I said, you will need energy for your shoot, because I will be putting you and your hot bod to WORK. I always highly recommend to my muses to start stretching 3-4x a week about a month before their session. Especially focusing on stretching your back, but other parts of the body as well, will help you feel more limber and more easily get into some of the funky posing. Sometimes they feel weird, but believe me, they ALWAYS look great! You can find simple stretches for beginners on pinterest, or even in the VIP facebook group! Bonus Prep Tip: SPF Baby

I have one more tip that I wanted to include here in the end! It’s not usually an issue for most of the year here in Portland, but for summer sessions or out-of-towners, this is a big one! Make sure to be extremely careful with sun tanning and tanning beds 4-6 weeks before your session. It’s okay if you want to have a warmer glow, but do so carefully, as the last thing you want to deal with are tan lines and sunburns during your shoot. Sometimes if they are very mild, they can be reduced in retouching, but if they are severe, we may have to send them for outside editing which will result in additional editing fees. So better to err on the side of caution with this one!
