The Ultimate Self-Love Experience | Portland Boudoir Photographer

That is a big title — not just in length, but in weight! But there it is, I’m sticking with it. I do believe that a boudoir photoshoot can be the ultimate experience in many things - self love, self acceptance, self expression, creative discovery, and basically whatever else you want it to be. But these 3 things I’m talking about in today’s post are what I believe to be the key ingredients in making it successful.

Personalized Boudoir Experience

From the very first phone call, your boudoir experience is tailored to you. As an enneagram 9, I love listening to you talk, hearing your story, and connecting with you on a personal and professional level. I want to know all about the outfits you’re going to wear AND your beloved cat’s name. I want to hear about what’s inspiring your photoshoot AND your dream career.

Boudoir photography is not a one size fits all thing, it’s shifts and molds to who you are and what you want to achieve. In the first set of emails you’ll get after booking, there will be a detailed questionnaire asking you a few more questions about what your dream session looks like. We talk about this on the phone too, but I think having it asked in a different way can help us clarify the final vision. I read through that questionnaire to get a jumping off point for our next collaborative piece — the mood board!

The mood board is where we get even more specific with your concept. All of your inspo photos, colors, outfit ideas, and more will live here, giving us a curated space to refer back to on the day of your boudoir photoshoot. Bring all of your fantasies and wildest dreams, self-love is about loving your thoughts and creative ideas, too! This is one of my favorite parts of the planning process, and where we compile all the elements into a super unique experience just for you.

Connect with your body

A boudoir photoshoot is the place to connect with yourself, and a new chance to really appreciate and feel at home in your body. When you come into the studio, we are leaving the rest of the world outside. This is our bubble to exist freely in; free from expectations and societal norms. My studio is your place to dive deep within yourself during your photoshoot, think about how certain poses make you feel, and how the session challenges the doubts you might’ve had the day before.

Boudoir photography is making art with our bodies for ourselves. Not for social media, not for a partner; it really does come down to a reflective, explorative experience that allows you to connect and sync with your body. When it comes to a self-love or self-acceptance journey, that new connection we get to form can be so transformational.

Artful reminders

At your boudoir session, you’ll go on a journey of self expression, exploration, discovery, and confidence. We’ll wish that we could bottle them up and keep those feelings immortalized to enjoy again and again. Thankfully, we have the next best thing. The art that we create together during your photoshoot can be displayed in a variety of ways that will allow you to remember that experience forever.

The initial high of the photoshoot will wear off after a while, but having tangible photographs to hold in your hands or see hung on the wall will be daily reminders for you every time you look at them. Seeing your photographs like this, displayed as real pieces of art, is a real change to the brain chemistry. This serves as a reminder that we are the subjects of that art, and collaborators in it’s creation! We are worthy of being gazed upon like a classical painting in the Louvre. That shit is powerful.
