Artistic Props to Bring to Your Boudoir Session | Portland Boudoir Photographer
Among the many ways we can curate and personalize your boudoir photoshoot, props are a great way to add an active or background element of interest to your photographs. During the planning stage, we talk about what your goals are for your session; what you want to see, and what story you want to tell through your photos. Props are a great way to elevate that story and add detail and personality (bonus: usually gives you something to do with your hands!)
I do think we need to widen our ideas of what props really can be, because some of you may have cringed thinking about the cheesy 90s photo props from your childhood retail store shoots. This week, I’m sharing with you some of my favorite artistic props that you can bring to your own boudoir session! (non-cringe edition!)
Boudoir Prop Idea: Books
Books (or similar objects like records, journals, a newspaper, etc) are great for engaging your hands in a task, while providing a story element at the same time. This can give an insight into your bookish nature, your favorite artists or authors or genres, or just bring a cozy vibe to the scene. A book prop is an easy way to contribute to the story, pun absolutely intended.
Boudoir Prop Idea: Flowers
Fresh rose stems or whimsical floral stems, flowers are probably my favorite props for boudoir! They are a great element to use actively (holding it against your cheek or chest, or wrapping them around your legs) or as a background detail. Flowers add color, softness, and femininity. Basically, they’re always a yes from me.
Boudoir Prop Idea: Fruit
Using fruit in your boudoir shoot has an innate fine art feel to it, and instantly makes your photos feel like a classic still life. Including foods or drinks in your session can be very interactive, and go in many creative directions. They can also add a fierce pop of color!
Boudoir Prop Idea: Paint & Art Medium
The most artistic prop of them all - your art medium! Whatever you like to work with, it’s allowed here; paint, pencils, cameras, you name it. For creatives, your art is a huge part of you and your personality, and can be a really fun prop to bring to your boudoir session.
