4 Creative Poses for Modern Photographers

Hey babes! 

Putting together photoshoots, whether for creative purposes or for a paid gig, can be super fun! They can also be a challenge when you want to give your clients something fresh and exciting, but your go-to poses are kind of everyone's go-to poses. I'm always trying to sketch stick figures of shots I want to try, or think of a direction I can give the model or client to get a unique look. So i'm giving you 4 (at least ;)) creative posing ideas to try on your next shoot!

IDEA ONE - LEAN WITH IT

Try having your clients lean against something. Against each other, a wall, or a car. This can help create dynamic lines in the photo, helping guide the viewers eye from one point to the next. Diagonal lines are a little more edgy, too, so that can add to the vibe.

IDEA TWO - CATCH SOME AIR

Jump for joy! Obviously, jumping photos are just fun no matter who it is. It gives your image movement, and your clients get a complimentary workout from jumping a hundred times! Try having them flail their arms or legs out and about, or even a spin - the options are pretty exciting with this one.

IDEA THREE - CREATE FRAMES

Using creative framing adds a ton of interest to an image, and can be done with many different elements. In the image above I used fingers to frame Amy's eye, and their arms together to draw your eye to the right side of the photo. Framing helps you guide the viewer to see what you want them to see first, which makes for a more powerful image. Use limbs, trees, or doorways to create frames (the possibilities are endless.)

IDEA FOUR - REACH OUT

I've never used this direction outside of editorial shoots, but any of these tricks can be adapted to any kind of shoot. Hands reaching out towards the lens creates leading lines right back to the subject, as well as layers and depth in the photo. it gives a super edgy look most of the time, but to be honest, as I'm writing this out I'm already thinking up ways I could use this with my couples!

+BONUS IDEA - FLIP IT AROUND

This isn't really a pose for a client so much as it is for you, the photographer (although, like I said earlier, these tricks can be interpreted in many ways!) I straight up laid on the sidewalk to get these. hang from a tree, lay on the ground, whatever you gotta do to get the shot! Within reason of course - stay safe out there.

Now take these 5 creative, modern poses and run with them! I find that using one or two new poses in a session can be really motivating, and can even inspire some of your own ideas on the spot.
