The Bloom Boudoir Experience: The Day of Your Photoshoot!

When considering booking a boudoir photoshoot, I think it’s important to take into account the experience as a whole. And while going over a quick bullet-point list on my website is fine to give you a taste, I want to use this post to illustrate a more detailed description of what the day of your boudoir experience will look like! Let’s jump right in starting with your arrival to my studio in NW Portland, OR.

Arrival + Hair and Makeup

The best part about the beginning of your session is that you get to show up in your loosest, comfiest clothes to hang out in! I always ask you wear this type of clothing in the morning to avoid lines imprinting on your skin before the shoot, plus you’ll be sitting in the hair and makeup chair for the first hour or so. So you might as well be comfortable! Since we do everything on site for you, all you need to do that morning is make sure you have clean, moisturized skin and clean, dry hair ready for styling!

Once you’ve gotten a chance to go to the bathroom, we’ll have you hop into the glam chair, bump your favorite music (or my boudoir playlist if you prefer!) and get to work! You’re welcome to bring photos of glam inspiration that our very talented hair and makeup artist Kelsee can go off of, or you can leave it in her very capable hands to create a totally custom look for you. Either way, she’ll have you glammed and feeling fine as wine!

What to Wear

Next, we’ll lay out all the lingerie options including pieces you’ve brought with you and anything you may want to borrow from the client closet! We can narrow down to the best outfits if you brought a whole bunch, or simply decide which to photograph first. It’s also helpful to keep in mind if you’d like to do nude or sheet/implied nude sets, because we’ll want to include those in the “outfit” plan to make sure time is allotted to shoot them!

It totally depends on the person what order we do things in. Some people like to start with a safer outfit, something closer to their comfort zone, then move up to more spicy outfits if there are any. Some people like to jump right into the deep end with the most bold outfit or nude first! Whoever you are, I’m here to make sure you are comfortable and supported throughout your entire experience. If you’re not sure where to start on what to wear, you can check out this blog post I made that gives you some different styles to think about! You can also join the VIP Facebook group (no boys allowed!😘) and ask around in our community of Muses, and check out the lingerie shopping master list of brands and websites that I’ve curated for this very occasion!

You’ll get dressed, then we’ll finally get to the fun part—the photoshoot!

The Photoshoot

Now the party is really starting! First, I’ll pull up my handy-dandy pose list. I am a very visual person, so my thoughts are always best organized in a way that I can physically see them. In this case, that means for every Muse I photograph, I create a custom mood board with details from your pre-session questionnaire, and drawings or photos of poses and compositions I’m inspired by for your shoot! This also helps me ensure that each client is getting a unique experience and set of photos. At this time, we’ll also utilize any bonuses that you’ve added on to your session! You can add on a bonus perk for FREE with pre-session payment plans. Which means you get to break down the cost of your investment, AND add on cool stuff for free. Hell ya!

For most people that I photograph, it’s their very first boudoir session (sometimes their first professional photoshoot in general!) so I like to start off with some really simple poses to get us warmed up. I’ll show you one of your beautiful photos on the back of the camera to show you that it’s all working, which usually is a nice boost of confidence right there! As we go through the session, I will be guiding you through every pose. I will have you mirror me for basically every pose, and I’ll help you with facial expressions too—even how to breathe to give you the best, relaxed expression haha! I don’t expect you to know how to pose or what to do with your hands, so don’t even worry about it! With my help, you’ll be nailing poses on your own by the end of the day. But the fun doesn’t end when the photoshoot wraps…

Same Day Image Reveal

Once I finally get the “last photo” (you’ll learn that when photographers say this, they really mean 3 more) you can change into your comfy clothes or another change of clothes if you want to bring them along, and I’ll send you out to have lunch, shop around, or whatever you want to do for a couple hours! During this time I’ll cull and edit your images to absolute perfection, and get everything ready for your eyes.

After those couple hours pass, I’ll have you come back to the studio for your same day image reveal!! Yes, you’ll get to see all your beautiful images that same day! It’s instant gratification at it’s finest. I’ll get to walk you through your photographs, celebrating with you and let you see this newfound side of yourself.

After a bunch of exciting screaming and “I can’t believe that’s me!” we’ll begin the ordering portion of the day!

Designing Your Products

Depending on which products are included in your Collection, we’ll start sorting your favorite photos and designing them! I have samples available at the studio that you can check out to help you make your decisions when customizing your products. For example, if you chose a Collection with an album, you’ll be able to flip through a sample album at the studio, and also physically see swatches of cover materials and colors. Additionally, if your Collection includes your digital collection, you’ll receive your digital image gallery that evening. How amazing is that!? During your ordering appointment, you also have the opportunity to make upgrades to your order as well, then we can do everything together right there in the studio! It makes everything so quick and easy, and the next time I see you at the studio will be to pick up your beautiful, high quality products—all ready to carry out in your very own Bloom Boudoir canvas tote bag.

That’s a Wrap!

I hope that gives you a better idea of what your Bloom Boudoir Experience will look like with me. It’s all about you, and making you feel on top of the world. You deserve a day to be pampered and to have a ton of fun! Remember, self care isn’t selfish.
